It's good for what it is. A decent cafe in a touristy town with not many choices for dining. I had the chicken fried steak, it was good, but I've had better. It came with a baked potato, Texas toast and a generous portion of fresh green beans (I loved those!) The patty melt was very good and the French fries were excellent. Tamara greeted us and we had a fun time chatting with her. We biked 18 miles on the Mickelson Trail and loved every minute of this gorgeous area.

I had the chicken fried steak last year and it was smothered with this great tasting gravy. Visiting this year, I made it a point to return and have it again. Sorry to say it was not the same. The mashed potatoes didn't taste "homemade" and the steak and gravy were so bland, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I had to resort to using ketchup on it. The service, however, was great!

Don't listen to the whiners who write bad reviews about this cafe! This is an excellent place to have breakfast in the mornings before going out to adventure in the Black Hills. I ate here for breakfast one morning and had a cinnamon roll and biscuits and gravy. The cinnamon roll was home made and tasted excellent. I was also very impressed with the biscuits and gravy. The service was fast and friendly. They were always there to fill up my coffee cup when needed. I would give this place 5 star but I have not yet experienced dinner here, but I am certain I would be impressed with it.

Stopped in on way thru town. Don't order hot roast beef. Meat tough & full of fat. Service not too good either. Waitress vanished.

First off: didn't eat here and that is the reason for the review. On a Friday morning around 9:30-10 walked in with a large group of about 10 people, including children, and someone from behind the counter shouted at us, "We're full!" Wow. Maybe it should have been more direct? As in, "Get out!" If someone would have taken 5 minutes to bus the tables, they could have had our business. Kind of surprising in a place that is in the heart of tourist-town.

The restaurant we wanted to eat at had an hour and twenty minute wait and the other one had just closed. So we ate here. It was not a good move. After looking at the menu and the buffet, I chose to have 2 individual boxes of Special K cereal with milk for dinner plus a glass of orange juice. The cereal was a good choice, the oj was not. My husband chose chicken fried steak, ha, not a good choice. He ate about 4 bites of it. Plan better than we did and find a different place to eat dinner. Or have the cereal and milk, it was fine.

Ate here on a Thursday evening and it was so good we came back Saturday night! Both times we had the buffalo steak, it was cooked perfectly and very tender. Great home made mashed potato and fresh green beans. Staff very friendly. Will definitely go back if we are in the Black Hills again.

This is a cafe that is very popular with the locals and we found it quirky and fun. The food is decent cafe fare with homemade cinnamon rolls and pies. Burgers are excellent and hand pattied. The breakfasts were very good and we ate there several times. The servers are friendly, fun, and hardworking. Homey and comfortable, this cafe was our go-to place all week.

Nice little dinner but why only remodel half the restaurant? The remodeled half is great with nice rustic feel the other half dated and a little grubby feeling. Friendly staff but waitress first day and seemed to have not give any training. I had the hot beef plate instant gravy and a little tough my son had the Burger and fries not bad but a little over priced for a frozen patty.

The chicken fried steak alone makes this place worth 5 stars. its a real steak, not a pressed together mess like most places. The salad bar isn't much, but it was fresh. The coffee is also very very good! I ate here twice during a 4 day stay in the area.

Not much to look at and the salad bar was pretty sad and overpriced. BUT the walleye dinner was fantastic so I have to give this four stars. If you like walleye they do a simple, flavorful generous plate that is better and cheaper than Desparado's down the street. My son had a cheeseburger that was great as well, nice and medium.

it was one of those places that looks like a great find from the street.....and then you walk through the door and are trying to sneak right back out when the waitress says "how many for dinner?" I think the owners would do well to read these reviews and work on some ambiance, menu, cleanliness, etc. -this could be a cool little find as the food wasn't that bad...just everything else was not very good

Was open late and the service was fast and friendly. Nothing fancy, but for a couple of hungry travelers, this place did the trick!

We went here for breakfast on a Monday morning. While nothing to write home about, the food was perfectly good. I had the #4, which included pancakes and sausage and eggs. The sausage was very good, I would choose that over the bacon which was greasy. The pancakes were plate-sized. The service was good and pretty fast. There was a problem in town today, all the credit card machines were failing due to a phone line issue. We had no cash, so they let us leave without paying with just a promise to come back later to pay! Wow, you never see that at home.

If you're looking for a greasy, salty breakfast buffet with an interior best described as "ratty midwest chic", then this is the place for you.

Eggs were bland and hashbrowns Luke warm. There are likely better options in Hill City for breakfast.
